Bourgogne Rouge, Frédéric Magnien

« Back to Wine List

Frédéric Magnien seeks out fruit from top sites in order to make even his generic wines and, being based in Morey St Denis, his Bourgogne rouge is inevitably sourced from this northern part of the Côtes de Nuits, giving it more backbone and structure. Dense red black fruits with a hint of perfumed oak, this is drinking beautifully now.

"Very firm tannin with an austerity to the finish that demands good food. Well crafted wine, designed for some ageing, we’d say, with its bright fruit and powerful drying tannin." The Wine Gang, September 2010

"Scooping up a humble bourgogne blanc, or rouge, from a good producer and a top year can add up to great value for money drinking. As a négociant, or merchant, based in the northern Côte d’Or in Morey St Denis, Frédéric Magnien is renowned for his fruit-led wines just like this delicious ’06. Lap up this sweet, ripe, zesty, damson plum fruit-charged red burgundy, with a touch of leather and chocolate spice on the finish, before everyone else does." Jane MacQuitty, The Times Top 100 Wines of Summer 2009

"Pure strawberry hit on the nose! Gleeful strawberries on the palate. A mouthful of summer. Life and lift and red-dress-sashay." Tamlyn Currin for www.jancisrobinson.com
