Bylines Chardonnay, Hunter Valley (6 per case)

product image

Under the ministrations of John Duval, Bylines Chardonnay is the antithesis of the standard image of overoaked and underfruited Australian Chardonnay. Part barrel and part stainless steel fermented, this manages to be exuberant yet restrained at the same time, with hints of toasty  grilled citrus fruits on the nose and palate, densely fruited, with lovely promise for the future should it be allowed to get there.

"This is steeply priced but deservedly so. It’s from a joint venture by David Fatches and John Duval, two of Australia’s most highly regarded winemakers. Elegant and understated - but with classic development ahead of it in bottle - it’s as far from an oaky over-the-top Oz chardy as it’s possible to get." Bob Tyrer, The Sunday Times

"Smoky flint and Bramley apple lingering on the nose. Creamy and leesy. Oak spice, with rich texture, full sweet melon but not over-ripe. Acidity and minerality with cut and thrust. Spicy caressing length. Well balanced." Tamlyn Currin for www.jancisrobinson.com
