Directly north of the Côtes de Bourg, the 1ères Côtes de Blaye were once better known for their production of white wines destined for Cognac than for their quality reds. Not dissimilar in style to the Bourg wines, they tend to be robust and full bodied, and Château les Marechaux is no exception, with creamy, cedary black fruit underscored by toasty vanillin – made so very approachable with the assistance of Stéphane Derenoncourt.
