Possibly one of Burgundy’s best kept secrets, until very recently any Meursault grower worth his salt had vines in Saint Romain as well. Just over the back of the hill, sharing much the same soil and almost the same aspect, here you can still get wines with more than a passing resemblance to Meursault without the price tag. Matrot’s Saint Romain is plump, fresh and racy with gorgeous citrus fruit, drinking beautifully now and pulling no punches.
