Springfontein Estate Reserve gains recognition
We were thrilled to hear from Springfontein's Anja Weber that their delicious Springfontein Estate Reserve from South Africa's Walker Bay was listed as one of the German wine journal WEIN GOURMET's best buys.
The tasting note: "Dark red, with wild strawberries and juniper notes, fleshy with distinct minerality, fresh acidity, fine tannins, an elegant wine. Subtle toasty aromas, long finish."
This wine also comes highly recommended by the Private Cellar team. Outwardly a classic Bordeaux blend it has a few Southern varietals to ring the changes - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot are combined with Mourvèdre and Shiraz - which are aged separately for 16 months in French oak before blending. The wine has lovely ripe red fruit, fresh and creamy at the same time, with hints of spice, supple tannins and a long, evolving finish.
