The Private Cellar Top 100 Hat Trick
If we were thrilled with the recommendations for our Rully from Domaine Debavelaere and Bordeaux Supérieur from Ets J-P Mouiex in Jane MacQuitty's recent Times Top 100 Wines of Summer series, we were utterly bowled over by the results that we achieved in Jane's final selection to round off her favourite summer wines.
Of the seven wines that we offered for tasting, no less than five were chosen from the literally thousands of bottles that Jane tasted for this series. Credit of course goes to our buyer and Master of Wine Nicola Arcedeckne-Butler - this really is quite a result!
Jane has just completed her annual quest to find the best 25 wines in the country in four distinct categories: supermarket, under £8, under £12 and under £20.
In her first selection, we saw our Bordeaux Supérieur from Ets J-P Moueix featured, followed swiftly by Anne-Sophie Debavelaere's stunning Rully 2005 in the under £12 section. However in her final installment, she recommended no less than three wines: Beaune les Sceaux 2005 from Domaine Debavelaere, Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet from Isabelle & Denis Pommier and our long-standing favourite Champagne Chauvet.
This really proves that life does exist below £20, £12 and £8 a bottle and some of the very best wines in these categories are available from Private Cellar. So to see if you agree with Jane (and us), why not try the wines? They are delicious and with all of us tightening our belts they are the perfect excuse to leave the Lafite in the cellar a little longer and to drink something that is, frankly, inexpensive.
