The Times Top 100 Wines of Summer 2011
We were thrilled that three of our wines were chosen by Jane MacQuitty for her annual Top 100 Wines of Summer feature...
First up we have Château Grinou Blanc: "Catherine and Guy Cuisset are the folk behind this sauvignon blanc-semillon Bergerac blend from an organic village. Grinou hangs on to its exuberant, bold, herby, earthy Bergerac fruit and thus brings you some of the elegance of its western neighbour, Bordeaux, at a much lower price."
André Dezat's Sancerre was also singled out for praise: "The Dezat family has been making wine in the lush green hamlet of Chaudoux since the 1550s. André is aided by his two sons, so the future of this vibrant, scented, grassy sancerre with a nip of lemon zest on the finish is assured."
And finally, we are very pleased that people are sitting up and taking notice of the wonderful wines from the Minervois. Villa Serra 2005 is a super wine which always sells well at tastings and it seems that Jane was impressed too: "It’s surprising how good minervois has become. What was once a rustic, surly and often midden-scented southern French red has now, in the right hands, evolved into a very different beast. I much enjoyed this mature, elegant, spicy, seductive, violet-scented and very fine 2005 from a beautiful vintage."
