Burgundy has had a good recent run of Côte d’Or red vintages, including 2006. So what you get with this very elegant, leafy, plummy volnay is oodles of mild and medium-strength game-bird-suitable fruit, plus a long, smoky finish. Delicious drunk young with all its juicy pinot noir fruit to the fore, this one could cope with turkey provided that you went easy on the trimmings. Or put it away until 2014 while it evolves into a fine, tobacco and truffle-laden aged volnay.
