Wines for Burns Night by Johnny Ray

The Telegraph, Saturday 24th January 2009

2006 Villa Wolf Pinot Gris, 12% vol, Germany

This delightful new discovery of mine is a deep golden-coloured, full-flavoured Pinot Gris from the Pfalz region of Germany, similar in style (and geography) to neighbouring Alsace. Made by the fabled Ernie Loosen, it is dry but with rich, oily, honeyed fruit and neat acidity. Spot on with the traditional Burns Night opener of cock-a-leekie soup.
