Château Beaulieu Comtes de Tastes, Bordeaux Supérieur 2015

Deep red black, with a concentrated black-fruited nose, a hint of cedar and spiced oak, fresh, leading to a rich, dense palate of sweet black fruits underscored by grilled spice notes, fresh with substantial tannins behind, ripe and alluring with a pure, spicy black fruit finish. Punches well above its weight. Drink 2020 – 2028

Château Grand Village, Bordeaux Supérieur 2015
not offered in 2010

The family home of the Guinaudeau family of Château Lafleur, Pomerol, the vines here are treated in exactly the same way as in Pomerol and the wines are made similarly too; physically in Fronsac, the vineyards are outside the official AC boundary hence the wine is a simple Bordeaux Supérieur. Baptiste Guinaudeau considers this the best they have ever made here. 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc.

Vibrant red black with a nose of sweet, creamy black fruit, very brambly, quite tight, leading to a palate of expansive creamy black fruit, again brambly with fine, supple ripe tannins behind, rich, and broad but not lush going to a long, evolving, ripe finish. Gorgeous, real value for money. Drink 2020 - 2029

£115
Château Haut Gay, Bordeaux Supérieur 2015

Vibrant red black, with a nose of sweet, juicy black fruit, with spice and some new wood notes, fresh and attractive, leading to a palate of deliciously toasty, smoky, primary fruit, juicy and fresh with lovely intensity behind the soft tannins. Fun and funky with a lovely grilled finish, you could gulp this now but best to wait a couple of years.

Château Angludet, Margaux 2015 - sold out
Price in 2010: £249

Dense red black with a nose of sweet black fruit, tight with some spice, vinous and almost feral leading to a big, smooth, verging on over-ripe palate of plummy black sloe fruit, spiced with some floral notes and a distant hint of mocha going to a sweet, juicy finish.
Drink 2020 – 2028

We absolutely adored château Angludet on tasting but the punchy Euro price increase over last year’s release still came as a shock. That said, it remains the least expensive decent vintage of Angludet available on the market and, of course, it’s from Margaux, which fared rather well as an appellation in 2015.

Château Margaux, 1er Cru Classé Margaux 2015 (6 per case) - sold out

After the tragically sudden death of Paul Pontallier, who for us symbolised Margaux almost as much as Corinne Mentzelopoulos just days before the primeur tastings began, we felt almost as if we were intruding on private territory when we went for our tasting, even though the property were insisting that it was business as usual. If there can ever be a good time to go, Paul came pretty close to it, with the brand new, Norman Foster-designed cellar fully functioning with the 2015 vintage, and put to full use with the extraordinarily tasty fruit which 2015 produced in Margaux. Just 35% of the crop went into the first wine, with 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot in the blend. Deep red black to the rim with a tight, shy nose of smoky black fruit, spiced and mineral, almost stony, leading to a dense, rich palate of intense black fruit with a huge tannic structure hidden behind, elegant and rich with lovely density, going to a fabulously elegant finish. A long termer. Drink 2026-2050

not offered in 2010; 66% Semillon, 34% Sauvignon Blanc, 70% fermented in Burgundian barrels. The aim here is not to make a classic Bordeaux Blanc but to make a wine more Burgundian in style with techniques such as bâtonnage.

Pale gold with a broad citrus nose, grapefruit and dominant grassy Sauvignon notes, waxy, leading to a substantial, plumply fruited palate of lemon and grapefruit, again waxy notes, intense, vibrant and almost creamy to a really long finish. There is an amazing contrast of freshness and plump fruit here. Truly delicious. Drink 2017 – 2022
