Château Cos d’Estournel, 2ème Cru Classé St Estèphe 2016
Price in 2015: £1,265
76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc
Deep, dense red black right to the rim almost opaque. On the nose, creamed black fruit, with an alluring richness, perfumed and spiced to a palate that is intense on entry, rich, concentrated and with spectacularly supple tannins, dense and creamed whilst remaining very elegant too with a floral note, lightly spiced. This seems to be the new style Cos, aiming for elegance over brute power and all the better for it. Perfumed with light oriental spice and grilled on the finish, this is a wine that goes on and on. Really lovely. Drink 2026-2045

Dense red black, semi-opaque with a nose of crunchy, ripe blackcurrant fruit. On the palate, rich blackcurrant fruit on entry with some black pepper notes and a floral hint too, creamy and elegant but not blockbuster, the ripe tannins are well integrated, leading to a fresh, racy and long finish. Deep, semi-opaque black with a penetrating nose of grilled, toasty, smoky black fruits – mulberry, blackcurrant. Soft, supple, intense black fruit on the palate, very Cabernet in style, crunchy and juicy yet smooth and rich; as befits the Moueix style, this is not a blockbuster but remains incredibly elegant and smooth to a long, ripe, evolving finish, alluring and persistent. Delicious. Drink 2028-2040
