Château Beaulieu Comtes de Tastes, Bordeaux Supérieur 2016 (6 per case)
Price in 2015: £30
“I opened some Beaulieu C de T 2008 the other night and it was excellent. So much so that it reminded me I need more.” - quote from a customer 19/04/2017
Deeper red black with a lovely nose of fresh brambly black fruit, juicy and vibrant, pure and very appealing, leading to a palate of spiced, brambly black fruit, ripe tannins, juicy yet linear, with a lovely supple finish. Really good. Drink 2020-2026

Château Grand Village, Bordeaux Supérieur 2016
not offered in 2010; price in 2015: £115
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc grown on clay and limestone soils.
Dense purple black, with a perfumed nose of dusty red-skinned fruit leading to a palate of big sweet and soured red fruits with lovely richness and intensity but also incredibly primary, supple with very big tannins, sweet but really cool and balanced too, going to a long finish of sweet black fruits. Not opulent at all – this is the opposite of tactile and almost floats on the tongue.

Red black with a ridiculously attractive nose of juicy red and black fruits, creamy and smooth, leading to a spiced palate of fresh, racy red fruits underscored by some blackcurrant notes, vibrant with light tannins and juicy red fruits on the finish. Not aiming at greatness, just fantastically drinkable. Drink 2020-2024

Les Côtes
Château Carignan, Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux 2016
Price in 2015: £80
Deep purple black right to the rim with a tight, almost austere yet distantly perfumed nose of black fruits leading to a tightly fruited palate of sweet black fruits, fresh with hints of coffee, with substantial, ripe tannins well masked by the sweet fruit and going to a long, ripe, supple finish. Drink 2020-2029+

£102
Chateau Clos Puy Arnaud, Côtes de Castillon 2016
Made by Thierry Valette, former owner of Château Pavie, this is fully biodynamic and offers consistently stupendous value for money. We think it is significantly better than a more expensive St Emilion wine. There is very little racking so wines show a reduced character at this stage but those in the know will buy this...
Deep dense black right to the rim with a nose of intense, cooked black fruit, pruney, plummy, the reduction giving a savoury, meaty note. On the palate, sweet, almost raisiny, black fruit, some honey, intense, floral with huge structure behind, notes of orange zest too and going to a deliciously fresh finish. Drink 2024-2040+

£250
Clos Fontaine, Côtes de Francs 2016
100% Merlot
Please note that magnums (£132 per six) and double magnums (£50 each) are available.
Dense red black with nose of sappy black fruit overlaid with some fresh grassy notes. Big, fresh grassy fruit on the palate, quite tight at present (the wine had only one month in barrel when we tasted, following a very long fermentation) with deliciously juicy black fruit behind, going to a rich and layered finish. Fantastic value for money and well worth a try. Drink 2020-2026

Domaine de Cambes, Bordeaux 2016
Price in 2010: £295; price in 2015: £305

The Cabernet Franc is from wonderful old vines; the Malbec vines are gradually being replaced with Merlot. Date of harvest: 7th to 10th October 2016.
Dense black red, opaque and intense with an inviting nose of warm black fruit that leaps out of the glass, leading to a palate of intense juicy black fruit, stalky, rich and velvety, layered, sweet and smooth, almost like fruit juice, with huge but really ripe and supple tannins, some animal / feral notes, leading to a long, rich but fresh finish. Drink 2020-2030

Montlandrie, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2016
75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
From relatively young vines, planted by Denis Durantou in around 2000 when he took over this is rich with plum and sloe on the nose, savoury and spiced, with some mineral notes too, as well as fresh blackcurrant leading to a relatively austere palate after the sweetness of Les Cruzelles, but with rich ripe fruit behind, intense tannins, layered, perfumed, rich, with a lovely, sweetly spiced finish. Big wine. Drink 2024-2034

£175
Château Roc de Cambes, Côtes de Bourg 2016 (6 per case)
Price in 2010: £225; price in 2015: £230
80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec
The soil here is clay over limestone, very similar to Tertre Roteboeuf. Date of harvest: 12th to 13th October with the Cabernet Sauvignon harvested on 19th October.
Dense, opaque black red, with wild nose of feral black fruits, meaty, savoury and intense, with hints of loganberry. On entry, the palate is rich, intense and savoury, almost creamy, before huge black fruits are revealed, rich and intense, really pretty yet masculine too, leading to a tarry, spiced black-fruited finish, intense, rich and hinting at sweetness. Delicious wine. Drink 2024-2040

£258

Château Cissac, Haut Médoc 2016
not offered in 2015
"The 2016 Cissac has an attractive, quite lively and vivacious bouquet with well defined blackberry and blueberry fruit, commendable mineralité and tension developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, crisp acidity, good grip in the mouth with a focused and quite long finish. This is an excellent contribution to the vintage from Château Cissac and it should be (fingers crossed) good value." Neal Martin

£102

Château Sociando Mallet, Haut-Médoc 2016
"Inky black in colour, with a beautiful graphite and black fruit nose. This is undoubtedly a great Sociando this year, with precise yet juicy graphite and black fruits on the palate, from a fairly even blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc too. Drink 2023 - 2040" Jane Anson, Decanter.com
