Dry White Bordeaux
Aile d'Argent, Bordeaux 2016 (6 per case)
Price in 2015: £280 per six
53% Sauvignon Blanc, 46% Sémillon, 1% Muscadelle
Pale gold with a nose of gorgeously voluptuous semi tropical, white stone fruits, marzipan, hazelnut. Palate sweet white stone fruits, rich, voluptuous, stunning, layered, ripe and seriously attractive. Long, ripe, zingy acidity, layered. Just wow. Melon and semi trop on finish, sweet and ripe. Truly stunning, and one of the best of the 2016 dry whites. 2019 – 2024+

6 per case

La Clarté de Haut Brion, Pessac-Léognan 2016 (6 per case)
23.7% Sauvignon Blanc, 76.3% Sémillon
Harvested 1st-13th September
Bright green gold with a gorgeously rich nose, cool and slightly exotic, floral, some semi-tropical notes but very restrained, grilled with notes of grapefruit too. On the palate, the racy acidity on entry is complemented by juicy fruits behind, rich yet saline and mineral too going to a truly fabulous finish. This wine never disappoints.

Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2016
Gorgeously plump on the nose with lush, herby white stone fruit, some citrus, creamy, with distant grilled notes, spiced too. On the palate big creamy white fruit, rich and warm but with good background acidity, mouth-filling, rich, intense, smooth, layered, truly delicious with lovely poise and balance, rich right to the finish. Edible. Drink 2019-2035

6 per case

Cos d'Estournel Blanc, Bordeaux 2016 (6 per case)
Price in 2015: £450
75% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Sémillon
Cos Blanc has been made only with fruit from the clay and limestone soils in 2016, the fruit grown on the gravel soils was excluded from the final blend. Rich on the nose with more mineral Sauvignon notes than exotic Sémillon, almost flinty, some new wood too and a distant grilled note. Rich, plump fruit on the palate, sweet and exotic with citrus and distant waxy Sémillon notes, tropical and creamed but with racy acidity behind to a mouth-watering saline, stony and rich finish. Drink 2018-2022

Château de Fieuzal Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2016
Tight white stone fruits, some stony notes and not particularly lush when compared with other Pessacs, very Sauvignon Blanc with almost grassy notes on the nose, leading to a palate of smooth, very plump white stone fruits, really intense flavour, much more appealing than the nose, creamed but still quite restrained, with good acidity behind and going to a really long finish. Drink 2017-2024
Château Grand Village Blanc, Bordeaux 2016
not offered in 2010; price in 2015: £95
Blended just before we tasted and comprising a third each of Sémillon, Sauvignon Banc and Sauvignon Massale from Sancerre, 50% barrel fermented. Following blending, wines often show a reduced character, struck match and cheesy notes but behind this we found big steely mineral fruit, fresh and semi-tropical but completely dry. The palate is racy with lemon fruit, very citrussy and somewhat shockingly so, with gorgeous semi-tropical depth of fruit behind, racy, zingy, incredibly layered, long add intense to a mineral, saline and energizing finish. Wow! Drink 2019-2024

Blanc de Lynch Bages, Bordeaux 2016 (six per case)
Price in 2010: £130; price in 2015: £130
52% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon, 18% Muscadelle
Very pale water white, with a rich, grapefruit-infused nose, some plump citrus and lychee notes behind, really alluring with a hint of leafy spice leading to a palate of rich, sweet, white fruits, richer than nose implies, with some wood spice, fresh with bright acidity, refreshing, vibrant with a long, lightly creamed, grilled citrus and lychee finish. Long, rich, evolving.  Delicious. Drink 2019-2023

Château Pape Clément Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2016 (6 per case)
not offered in 2010; price in 2015: £505
A touch cloudy at this tasting with a green glint and a nose of tight, spiced white fruits, very closed, some herby, with a very supple palate of big white stone fruits, very restrained, cream and spice just discernible in the back ground, deliciously poised and rich. Really lovely but needs time to show colours with a rich, long finish. Drink 2020–2030+

6 per case

Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux 2016 (6 per case)
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Fabulous nose of marzipan, orange blossom, complex with crème pâtissière and semi-tropical notes too. On the palate, soft, sweet white stone fruit, with grilled crème anglaise notes, relatively light acidity at first but there is just enough to take the wine to a layered, mineral, leafy, saline, mouth-watering finish. Drink 2020-2030
Château Picque Caillou Blanc, Pessac Léognan 2016 (6 per case)
Price in 2010: £70; price in 2015: £75

Very pale with a gorgeous nose of grapefruit, exotic white stone fruits, sweet and lavish with a distant herby note, leading to a truly gorgeous palate of saline white fruits, deliciously fresh with some grilled notes behind, creamed citrus, rich, truly delicious with a lovely citrus finish. We can't wait to get our hands on this! Drink 2019 – 2024+

6 per case

Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc, Pessac Léognan 2016
Price in 2015: £650
90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris, 5% Sémillon
Pale gold with a nose of musky white stone fruits, very restrained and tight with some white flowers behind, closed at this stage. The palate is rich and sweet on entry, dense and ripe with fine acidity, intense and rich with vibrant white flowers, but very definitely for the longer time. Rich, sweet, ripe, intense on the finish. Drink 2020-2040
