Dry White Bordeaux
Aile d'Argent, Bordeaux 2017
53% Sauvignon Blanc, 46% Sémillon, 1% Muscadelle
Deepish gold with a glorious white Bordeaux nose of tropical fruit, grapefruit, ripe, really gorgeously layered, fresh and sherbety. The palate is deliciously juicy and rich, layered and ripe with grapefruit and tropical hints again, truly stunning, with just enough acidity to balance, fresh and sherbety on the finish, long, rich and succulent. A lovely wine for the mid- rather than longer term. Drink 2020 - 2025

Caillou Blanc de Château Talbot 2017
Light gold with some smoky notes on the nose, grapefruit and saline, fresh and racy but a touch flatter on the palate with lovely layered flavours and some oak just noticeable.
La Clarté de Haut Brion, Pessac-Léognan 2017
30.6% Sauvignon, 69.4% Sémillon
Green gold and still a touch cloudy at the time of tasting, with very marked Sauvignon Blanc on the nose at present, with leafy green fruit, soft and supple, some grapefruit and passion fruit, maybe mango too, really alluring and up front. The palate is again very Sauvignon dominated, in contrast to the cépage, with some waxy Sémillon showing behind and citrus and grapefruit, racy, with balanced acidity and some white pepper too going to a long, blackcurrant leaf finish.

Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2017
Lovely grapefruit on the nose, some creamed lemon fruit, mineral and fresh, with a gorgeously plump palate of citrus, grilled, creamed, hints of crème brulée , a light touch of oak, some honey and wax notes too, with a zip of lychee and passion  fruit behind. Really rich and exotic, with supple acidity going to a superbly long finish. Everything just so. Drink 2022 - 2030

Cos d'Estournel Blanc, Bordeaux 2017 - sold out
80% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sémillon
Gorgeously plump Sauvignon-dominant nose with camomile, verveine and spice, layered and fresh, rich and sweet with white stone fruits, some grapefruit and agrume notes; fresh, vibrant and juicy on the palate, clearly Sauvignon with the Sémillon in abeyance with pretty white stone fruits, big acidity, the wood not really marked. A seriously edible wine, absolutely delicious – it was hard to spit out! Drink 2022 - 2026

Château de Fieuzal Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2017
Château Grand Village Blanc, Bordeaux 2017
70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sémillon
Dense gold with a green glint with sweet, smoky fruit on the nose, some grapefruit, clean and pure, rich and layered. On the palate, lovely lemony fruit (not just citrus), some sherbet, deliciously poised and fresh with some new wood but phenolics too going to a long, ripe and creamy finish.

La Mission Haut Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2017
23.8% Sauvignon Blanc, 76.2% Sémillon
Very different on the nose, creamy and yeasty but still with Sauvignon Blanc to the fore, more waxy and rich and some toasty notes too. Sweet, creamy white stone fruits on the palate, some grilled lemon / lemon crème brulée, ripe and surprisingly evolved when compared with Clarté, plump with the new wood definitely showing through the blend at present, balanced acidity and a lovely saline twist on the finish.

Château Latour Martillac Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2017
Fresh Sauvignon Blanc dominates the nose, with some grilled, waxy notes too and new wood, leading to a palate of spiced white fruits, some lemon, more Sauvignon than Sémillon at this stage, grilled oak, creamy but very fresh rather than weighty, nicely done to a long, vibrant finish. Really good. Drink 2022 - 2026
Blanc de Lynch Bages, Bordeaux 2017 - sold out
40% Sauvignon Blanc, 41% Sémillon, 19% Muscadelle matured in 45% new oak; there is a slightly lower proportion of Sauvignon Blanc than usual due to the frost.

Very pale with some musty notes on the nose initially, very Sauvignon Blanc – blackcurrant leaf – sweet and rich with waxy fruit – Kiwi, white peaches and pears – and a floral hint too. On the palate, fresh Sauvignon Blanc fruit with some waxy notes, deliciously creamed with some sherbet notes but really not overt and the Muscadelle is scarcely noticeable at this stage, neither is the new wood.

Château Pape Clément Blanc, Pessac-Léognan 2017
Slightly deeper gold than other wines with a nose of waxy white fruits, not overtly fruited, with some very distant grilled notes. On the palate lovely sweet fruit, rich, with racy acidity, layered, fresh, creamed too; it's not obvious which grape in control at present but it’s a very alluring wine with very distant sub-tropical fruits; balanced and poised to an even better finish.

Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux 2017
Plump grapefruit aromas on the nose with racy Sauvignon Blanc notes, fresh and green but not grassy or gooseberry, rich and creamily spiced with a hint of cloves. The palate has ripe, exotic white stone fruit, the grapefruit from the nose turning to creamed notes, mouth-watering and citrus in character, with good acidity without being overwhelming and a hint of fresh salinity, going to a massively long finish.
Château Picque Caillou Blanc, Pessac Léognan 2017
Pale with a green glint and a nose of gorgeous grapefruit and white stone fruits, some peach too with a light grilled note, rich and really alluring, leading to a deliciously ripe, juicy palate, plump and rich yet zingy and linear too, mineral with citrus notes behind, going to a deliciously enticing finish. Fabulous. Drink 2020 - 2025

Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc, Pessac Léognan 2017
90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris, 5% Sémillon aged in 50% new and 50% one year old barrels
Bright green gold with a nose of lychee and some passion fruit, fresh yet grilled white stone fruits, really alluring yet not hugely overt; rich and ripe on the palate, gorgeously poised, musky with a hint of spice, with lovely acidity but not too much of it, the tension at the beginning is just right and the acidity at the end is balanced with a hint of grapefruit pith to give freshness. Yum!
