Natur Montsant (Mas Franch)
Montsant, Spain
Natur Montsant is a family wine business run from the family-owned farm in Margalef, in the Natural Park of Montsant, neighbour to Priorat.
The vineyards are cultivated on century-old terraces going up to 700 metres above sea level. Here the chilly night time temperatures allow the vines and fruit to cool down, thus ensuring a steadier maturation and correspondingly greater depth of flavour compared to vines grown closer to sea level. The vineyards have an outstanding natural beauty, abutting a forest and with wild aromatic herbs growing along the terraces.
Catalan oenologist Toni Coca is in charge of the winemaking here, largely following traditional methods but also introducing new technology where appropriate.
Grape Varieties: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Merlot, 5% Carignan sourced from the winery’s Margelef vineyard, 600 metres above sea level
Ageing: 12 months in American (60%) and French (40%) oak barrels
