Domaine Patrick Javillier
The Javillier family have been vineyard owners in Meursault for several centuries but it was Patrick’s father, Raymond, who worked full time as a vigneron, increased the family vineyard holding and set up a négociant business, to run alongside the Domaine. Patrick recounts that his father created a good market for their wines in the UK in the 1970s and is rather bemused by the fact that this was so successful a venture since his father spoke not a word of English. Patrick joined his father after his oenology studies and has continued to expand the vineyard ownership, which includes renting his wife Catherine’s family holdings in Savigny to make the red wines in his range.
The use of oak is measured; as with many of our suppliers, Patrick is a grower who believes passionately in terroir and the importance of allowing the wines to express their identity. Having said that, he vinifies four of his lieu dits separately and then blends them to make Tête de Murger and more recently, Clousots believing that the sum of their parts is greater than the components.
Patrick has great enthusiasm for his craft, communicating with genuine passion and his wines are a reflection of his character – open, individual and with depth.
We currently list Patrick's Bourgogne Blanc les Forgets and also offer his other wines en primeur at the beginning of each year. To be added to our en primeur mailing list, please click here. You may also find some older vintages on our Fine Wine List.
