Domaine Rois Mages (Anne-Sophie Debavelaere)
Anne-Sophie Debavelaere bravely took the decision to invest in vineyards and chais in Rully in 1984, despite no formal training in winemaking, and has not looked back since. She has completed her oenology studies and is hugely excited by the potential of certain soils in the Rully appellation, latterly buying a 1er Cru vineyard, les Pierres.
Based in the old Presbytery in the heart of Rully, with stunning views over the vineyards where both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown, Anne-Sophie is gradually handing over the day-to-day running of the Domaine to her son Félix who has also studied oenology. He has spent time travelling in India and Asia, even bringing back esoteric wines from Mongolia, and has returned with fresh tastes to broaden his horizons at the family domaine.
Here they are making red and white wines of great distinction following a philosophy of “lutte raisonnée”, limiting treatments in the vineyard to respect the terroir and, in the winery, employing soft pressing, with vinification and maturation in oak barrels, only a small percentage of which are new. Maturation takes place in the substantial vaulted cellars, built into the hillside in 1850 by Chalonnaise négociants “Petiot Groffier” for the production of sparkling Crémant, their design ensuring consistent temperatures even throughout the hottest of summers.
Grape Varieties: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
