Rocche Costamagna - Piedmontese wines of stunning quality
The Piedmontese landscape is very reminiscent of Burgundy, with a tapestry of small, family-owned vineyards hugging the hills and, as with Burgundy, the name of the grower is the key to the quality of the wines made. Rocche Costamagna was created in the 19th Century and after a period of acting as a négociant, after WW2, the estate was revived in the 1960s and is currently run by the founder’s great nephew, Alessandro Locatelli. Alessandro has worked with tireless energy and passion to restore the reputation of the Rocche Costamagna name and to produce wines of stunning quality. We are delighted to recommend them to you.
These wines are offered in bond, London and the offer will close on Friday 17th July, 2015. Shipment will be in September for delivery to you in October.

Langhe Arneis, Rocche Costamagna, 2014
£30 per six bottles in bond
Pale green gold with a tight, nose of waxy white fruits, giving little away at this stage. Fresh, clean and again tight on the palate at present, with distant floral notes and a light almond touch. Lovely body and weight indicating that it will open up further with a few more months in bottle under its belt. Drink 2015 - 2016
Barbera d’Alba Superiore, Rocche Costamagna 2011
£45 per six bottles in bond
Those who have bought the 2009 and 2010 will not be disappointed by this wine and would be best advised to drink this vintage before their 2010. Deep red black with a nose of sweet, tarry, rich black fruits, floral and desperately attractive, with a distant hint of crème pâtissière. Rich, deeply fruited on the palate, tarry and juicy again, with hints of black cherry and fine supple tannins on the end. Truly delicious and beautifully balanced. Drink 2015 - 2018
Barolo, Rocche Costamagna 2011
£65 per six bottles in bond
Made from grapes grown in their vineyards in La Morra and Verduno this wine is vibrant red to garnet on the rim with a delicious nose of red berries, spice and aniseed, leading to a rich, stylish palate of smooth red berry fruits with a distant hint of leather; nicely structured, with a lovely sweetness about it, this is beginning to drink well now and will keep and improve too. Drink 2015 - 2020
Barolo Riserva Bricco Francesco, Rocche Costamagna 2009
£108 per six bottles in bond
£45 per magnum in bond
£90 per double magnum in bond
From their prime vineyard site on the top (“bricco”) of the hill and only made in exceptional vintages, this is pale red to tawny on the rim with a lovely, tarry, sweet nose with secondary aromas – not primary fruit, more dried fruits, hay, with hints of dried flower petals, very alluring – leading to a palate with again dried fruits, compote, spiced with a hint of liquorice, musky and floral with a distant hint of leather to a long, evolving finish. Absolutely delicious. Drink 2015 - 2023
