Bourgogne Blanc, Sorin Coquard (Côte d’Auxerre) 2016

White | France | Burgundy | 13% | Dry, crisp white

In the north of the Burgundy region, just east of Chablis, lie the 30 hectares of vineyards belonging to Sorin Coquard; they were hit hard in 2016 with a third of the crop lost to frost and the majority of the rest to hail in May – we did, however, manage to buy a single pallet, so dive in while you can.

This wine had a very small amount of oak maturation but the emphasis here is on freshness and bringing the mineral and citrus notes to the fore. Deliciously poised and beautifully racy.

"Pure and taut chardonnay with a quite Chablis-like stoney, mineral quality." Andrew Neather, tasted at The Bunch tasting 19.09.2019

"Where the indies shine is in stocking wines that are under the radar, such as those that are just over the border from a more prestigious appellation - Bourgogne Blanc, Sorin Coquard 2016: Smooth, creamy, almost chablis-like" - Fiona Beckett, The Guardian Feast Magazine, November 2019
