Le Pavillon du Chateau Beauchene, Côtes du Rhône 2016

Red | France | Rhône | 13.5% | Lighter, fruitier red

There is little to say about Château Beauchêne's Pavillon which hasn't already been said except to repeat again and again how much we love it. On of the original 40 wines on our first list, it remains a firm favourite. This is the very last of our reserve of the 2016 vintage so when it's gone, it's gone... Supple, tarry red and black fruits, light tannins, smoky and a hint of garrigue, this is Southern France in a glass.

The Times Top 100 Wines of Summer 2019: "Dazzling lavender and sage-scented red rhône, overflowing with summer berry fruit from the Bernard family's grenache, syrah and cinsault vines, grown close to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. You'd never guess it was just a humble côtes du rhône." Jane MacQuitty

Wine of the Week in Spectator Life (27.06.2019): "This hit the absolute bullseye at our Spectator Winemakers’ Lunch last week, hosted by Ch. Beauchêne. The estate, just north of Orange, has been in the family for 11 generations and is noted for its superb, expressive, early-drinking Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its delightfully accessible Grenache-based Côtes du Rhône such as this. Soft, smooth, smoky, spicy, it’s cracking value and ideal for the summer barbecue." Jonathan Ray
