L'Exuberance Rosé de Clos Cantenac, Bordeaux 2018

Rosé | France | Bordeaux | 13% | Dry rosé

The 2018 Exuberance was made by Charlotte Krajewski, Martin’s daughter, who has returned from several years’ making wine in New Zealand’s North Island to manage the chais at both Clos Cantenac in St Emilion and Séraphine in Pomerol. The style remains consistently 'Exuberance', quantities are still very limited but are more generous than in the frost-bound 2017 vintage. The wine is 30% barrel fermented, one sixth of the oak is new. Deliciously attractive, easy to drink now but with the wherewithal to age and improve over the next couple of years.

Very pale pink with a nose of soft red berry fruit, creamy and fresh, really alluring, going to a very precise, pure palate, so very different in style from Provence rosés, with some fresh appley fruit and a light tannic bite on the rich, red fruit finish. Drink 2019 - 2021

"This is an unusual bottle – a Bordeaux Rosé, made predominantly from the Merlot grape. Most Rosé is consumed outdoors in the summer, but this has the structure and depth to be enjoyable all year round. Unlike most Rosé, which is fermented in stainless steel to maintain its perkiness, this has also gone through some barrel fermentation, so actually has some mid level depth and charming aftertaste. Good either as a Champagne substitute or with seafood." Bruce Palling, The Week, December 2019
