Château Cap de Haut, Haut-Médoc 2010

Red | France | Bordeaux | 14.5% | Full-bodied red

Legend has it that Château de Lamarque, home to Cap de Haut, is the oldest in the Médoc, with parts dating back more than a millennium. Just occasionally Pierre-Gilles Gromand d’Evry decides to relocate our tastings from the conventional tasting room into the dungeon in the main house – a reminder, perhaps, of when Lamarque was used to repel English invaders? Cap de Haut 2010 is one of their best to date, rich, dense, ripe with hints of mocha and grilled black fruit, tarry and spiced and, with its long finish, it feels more grown up than just Haut-Médoc.
