The Cabernet fruit is hand selected from the Lenton Brae Wilyabrup vineyard and fermented in small lots to maintain its diversity; it spends 18 months in a mix of new and one year old French oak. Lenton Brae's first white release was in 1987 and their first Cabernet in 1988; the wines consistently win medals and trophies at the rigorous Australian wine competitions and James Halliday, Australia’s top wine writer, rates them as a 5* producer, his highest ranking.

Deep red black with a nose of plummy, leafy fruit, marked by blackcurrant and tar, really intense. On the palate big, leafy black fruit, really fresh and purer than the nose, only just starting to evolve, with lovely spiced notes and a good depth of rich sweetness without risking being lush. Eminently drinkable now but will continue to mature for a further five years plus.
