Lune d’Argent, Clos des Lunes, Bordeaux 2016

White | France | Bordeaux | 13% | Dry, crisp white

For years, Olivier Bernard of Domaine de Chevalier in Pessac-Léognan had hankered after a Sauternes property and he eventually managed to buy Clos des Lunes. The Sauternes market is a hard one, with very low yields and hostage to weather patterns, so many producers make dry wines to keep things ticking over, Olivier included. The Lune d’Argent is a sumptuous blend of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon, both from old vines, fermented in oak, giving a delicious mix of honeyed, semi-tropical fruit, lime flowers too, with a lovely racy, balanced finish.
