Wine Bts per case £ per case in bond
Château Angélus 1er Grand Cru Classé A St Emilion 2018
65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc; normally 60% Merlot but strict selection this year saw the Cabernet quotient reduced; Hubert de Boüard calls Cabernet ‘the DNA of Angélus’; additionally, instead of 100% new barrels this year the wine has gone into two foudres each holding the equivalent to 15 barriques. Dense semi-opaque purple black with a gorgeously spiced, perfumed nose of black cherries, some vanilla, big black fruits notes reminiscent of Angélus of old, smooth and succulent with a spiced, minty, black fruited palate, super soft with gentle extraction, rich and intense going to a densely fruited, elegant finish. A stunner. Drink 2027-2035+

6 £1,530
Château Bélair-Monange 1er Grand Cru Classé St Emilion 2018
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Dense opaque black red to the rim with a nose of stalky blackcurrant fruit, fresh and crunchy yet very ripe too, sweet and savoury. On the palate big black fruits, supple yet substantial, rich with intense blackcurrant fruit, spiced and floral too with some distant toasty notes, going to a long, intense yet cool and poised finish. Really powerful wine for the longer term, superb. Drink 2028-2039

Chateau Canon, 1er Grand Cru Classé St Emilion 2018
72% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc. Deep vibrant red black with a nose of wild black fruits, spiced and fresh, really stylish, leading to a palate of deliciously bright red and black fruits, so soft and supple and without any hint of heat, really elegant, rich, layered and beautifully done yet with superb power behind. Long, vibrant, fresh and elegant on the finish. Why can’t others show this purity? Drink 2028-2039

6 £522
Château Fagnouse Grand Cru St Emilion 2018
70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. New to the hustings this year, from a 9 hectare family-owned property in St Etienne de Lisse, on clay-limestone soils with 40 year old vines. Deep purple black to the rim, semi-opaque, with a nose of blackcurrant and creamed black fruits, sweet and dark on the palate with a hint of dark chocolate and caramel behind, and then surprisingly fresh with fine crunchy black fruits going to a tarry, fresh, pure finish. Drink 2024-2029

12 £150
Château La Gaffelière, Premier Grand Cru Classé St Emilion 2018
42% Cabernet Franc, 58% Merlot with 60% new oak. After the frost of 2017, the fruit for Gaffelière came only from two limestone hills, not the valley; the result was a return to the style of wine from the previous generation, with more focus and intensity. In 2018, Aléxandre de Malet Roquefort decided to repeat the exercise so now just thirteen of their 22 hectares produce fruit for the grand vin and the results are spectacular. Dense purple black in colour with a nose of rich, toasty grilled black fruits, fresh and intense, leading to a super-sweet palate, vibrant with super-ripe but bright fruit, very focused and concentrated with significantly more power than in the recent past, going to a long, fresh, pure mineral finish. Wow, this is such a step up! Drink 2025-2035

12 £618
Château La Serre Grand Cru St Emilion 2018
80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Deep purple black with a nose of toasty grilled red and black fruits, reminiscent of a crème brulée with fresh blackberries. On the palate typical La Serre characteristics – substantial smooth creamy black fruits, very supple tannins, very visible oak influence but with a zip of freshness too. Love it! Drink 2024-2032

12 £480
Château La Tour Figeac Grand Cru St Emilion 2018
Dense purple black right to the rim, semi opaque; with a nose of very intense sweet black fruit, very rich; on the palate big black fruits, very well made with fine ripe tannins behind, beautifully balanced and very well done this year with a long grilled finish. Drink 2026-2036

Château Pindefleurs Grand Cru St Emilion 2018

Deep purple in colour with an intense nose of blackcurrant fruit, fresh and identifiable, with some creamed notes too, toasty and grilled, leading to a palate of rounded almost exotic spiced fruits, sweet and ripe, with substantial ripe tannins behind yet really fresh and poised and going to a long, creamed, lightly grilled yet fresh finish. Château Puy Blanquet Grand Cru St Emilion 2018
85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense purple black, not quite opaque with a nose of ripe black fruits, intense but pure with mineral notes too; on the palate dense black fruit, rich and ripe, with big structured tannins and again fresh crunchy fruit notes to the fore, going to a long, rich, creamed finish. A big wine with crunch and tannins, which will drink well for a few years to come. Drink 2025-2035

Drink 2022-2029

12 £150

Deep inky purple black right to the rim with a nose of spiced black fruit, sweet and rich, really plummy with spice leading to a substantial palate of huge black fruits, soft and supple in the mid palate with fine tannins and just a distant note of alcohol behind. The finish starts quietly but then grows with vibrant cherry fruit behind the spicy layers and a distant touch of graphite. So appealing! Drink 2023-2029
