Château Beychevelle, 4ème Cru Classé St Julien 2018
Dense purple black with a nose of tight stony fruit, wet stone and mineral note behind the black fruits; rich and intense on the palate, with massive, smooth black fruits, intense and spiced with substantial, supple ripe tannins behind, floral with lovely weight and length. Deliciously good wine. Drink 2029-2039

Château Branaire Ducru, 4ème Cru Classé St Julien 2018
Deep purple black to the rim with a nose of tart black fruits, intense and smooth with some smoky notes behind. On the palate more of the same with very primary black fruits, sweet and intense, smooth with big supple tannins behind, with creamed blackcurrant notes, going to a long, ripe, smooth finish Drink 2028-2037

Château Gruaud Larose, 2ème Cru Classé St Julien 2018
Deep purple black right to the rim with a nose of jammy black fruit, blackcurrant, ripe and with warmer fruit than others, leading to a palate of ripe black and red fruits, fresher than the nose implied with with big supple tannins behind going to a long, fresh finish, with lovely depth and layering. Really good wine. Drink 2028-2038

Château Lalande Borie, St Julien 2018
On the western side of St Julien on sandy soils; 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12 months in oak with 40% new in 2018. Deep red black with a nose of perfumed red and black fruits, really alluring and intense, almost spiced with a rich, dense palate of lovely black fruits with hints of violets, really intense, and beautifully balanced going to a long, grilled, rich finish. Drink 2024-2030

Château Langoa Barton, 3ème Cru Classé St Julien 2018
Deep purple black with a nose of stony, warmed black fruits yet fresh and crunchy too, really sweetly fruited, leading to a palate of dense black fruits with substantial ripe tannins behind, rich yet still very tight; pretty but closed until the finish which grows and broadens, with intense, grilled black fruits right to the end. Truly fabulous wine. Drink 2029-2040

Château Léoville Barton, 2ème Cru Classé St Julien 2018
Deeper purple black to rim with a nose of creamed, very intense black-skinned fruit, dark and mineral, some spice too, leading to a palate with a huge black fruit attack, underscored by substantial, tight tannins, ripe, grilled and spiced, layered. A much more intense Léoville than usual, very focused, brooding and tight with a long, evolving finish. Drink 2030-2045

Clos du Marquis, St Julien 2018
From vines on the western side of the road from the Las Cases Clos, on the plateau of St Julien. Dense purple black in colour with creamed black fruit on the nose, mineral and floral, tight with notes of redcurrant and ripe black fruit; very mineral on the palate with notes of black pepper, slightly slippery texture, with ripe supple tannins behind with the fruit coming out on the finish. Drink 2025-2035

La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou, St Julien 2018
75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. The vineyards lie along the banks of a stream called la Mouline northwest of the Château . Deep purple black, not opaque with a nose of deep stony black fruit, mulberry, rich and intense with notes of Morello cherry, really satisfying; on the palate big black fruits underscored with substantial ripe tannins, rich and tight, with notes of black skinned fruit, sweet with black cherry, spiced right on the end, with rich grilled and coffee notes on the end and an exceedingly long finish. Yummy! Drink 2025-2032
