Irancy, Domaine Watson 2022

Despite there being nearly 200 hectares in the appellation, Irancy is one of the least well known areas of Burgundy, possibly because it is in a region dominated by, and renowned for, its white wine. The village lies in a sheltered amphitheatre, which allows Pinot Noir (and up to 10% of César) to flourish 150km north of any other red Burgundy. The Kimmeridgian soil lends a uniquely mineral and clean note to the reds which are brilliant to serve lightly chilled this summer. The Watson family added Irancy to their portfolio in 2018 and their first vintage was made and managed for them by the Dampts; we are now on to the 2022 which is under their own label. A rising star and so popular at our tastings.
