Beaujolais Villages les Bruyères Blanc, Domaine des Combiers, Laurent Savoye 2024

White | France | Beaujolais | 13% | Dry, crisp white

30 year old vines on deep, clay and loam soils facing south east; no oak. Pale yellow with a glorious nose of juicy, semi-exotic stone fruit, a hint of orange zest, green leaf and marzipan, zingy, leading to a palate of racy white stone fruit, less overt than the nose, yet still plump with lovely lemony acidity, juicy with greengage notes, going to a lovely, fresh, citrus-infused finish. Instant joy. Drink 2026 - 2028

We don’t usually offer Beaujolais in our Burgundy primeur offer – indeed many a Burgundian would argue that they have no place in a Burgundy offer at all – but having tasted the few 2024s which survived the brutal growing season with Laurent Savoye we really feel that they deserve a little bit more attention than usual. As elsewhere in France, the summer was a litany of rain and low light, but in Beaujolais it was further compounded by two vicious hailstorms in June and July, running along a narrow strip which decimated the Beaujolais Villages vineyards whilst leaving St Amour unscathed.
