Alsace Domaine Allimant-Laugner

This vineyard is the product of a proud and rich family history. The origins of the domaine begin with two families who have been cultivating the vines since the 17th Century - the Laugners in the village of Dieffenthal and the Allimants in Saint-Hippolyte. In 1816, Captain François-Antoine Allimant bought more vines on the Haut-Koenigsbourg hills and a structure from 1664 in the village of Orschwiller, which remains the current property of the domain. The Allimants chose to focus heavily on wine in 1949 when Charles Allimant started to bottle his wine and developed these bottles distribution with his daughter Mariette and her husband René Laugner. Since 1984 their eldest son Hubert has taken charge, he gave the domaine its current name and introduced a lot of dynamism with his wife Françoise and their son Nicolas.

Vineyard and vinification

The 7 varieties from Alsace are grown on their 12 hectares of vines, which represents 40 separate parcels with different orientations, ages, and terroirs. The division of parcels is essential to Domaine Allimant-Laugner to get the right expression of the varieties on the right soils. South of the village, between Orschwiller and Saint-Hippolyte, the heavy clay and limestone soils are particularly appropriate to the Pinots. North of the village up to Châtenois, granitic soils are prevailing at producing Gewürztraminer.

When it comes to tending the vines Domaine Allimant-Laugner take a deliberately painstaking approach performing most cultivation tasks by hand (pricking, staking) because they believe that it is by having the closest contact with their vines that they can understand them and optimise their needs.

Wines

The Allimant-Laugner familial orientation has always been to produce fresh and well-balanced wines. As an aperitif, with daily dishes or the most wonderful gastronomic pairings, their objective is that every bottle provides pleasures and shared moments of friendliness. We at Private Cellar love this sentiment!
