Burgundy Domaine Parent

The current owners of Domaine Parent are Anne and her sister Catherine who are the 12th generation in a family of winegrowers dating back to the 17th century. With some growers, information is hard to come by, every fact or nugget dragged out reluctantly through intense questioning; with others, like Anne Parent, we enjoy a masterclass in everything, from terroir to climate, grape varieties to politics, with more than a little winemaking and philosophy thrown in for good measure. When Private Cellar visit we never want to leave!

Vineyard and vinification

As you might expect Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the grape varieties grown by Domaine Parent and La Croix Blanche vineyard is found just below premier cru Les Epenots. They have 10% whole bunch fermentation and less than 40% new oak used on the wine.

Wines

Domaine Parent is based right in the middle of Pommard, with cellars next to the church, so it will be no surprise to learn that this is essentially a mini-Pommard. Anne Parent has worked tirelessly in the vines to bring suppleness to the wines, where previously Pommard had a (well-deserved) reputation for being monolithic and impenetrable.

Visits to the Domaine require no small amount of time as Anne produces such an amazing range of wines from across her ten hectares of vines that it is worth tasting them all – the opportunity to taste nine different Pommards from the same hand is extraordinary, and the only way to really understand both the appellation and the Domaine.
