Burgundy Domaine Jean Vaudoisey

The Vaudoisey family have been living in Volnay since 1804. Since then, their ancestors have always worked in the vineyards with passion. Today, Jean Vaudoisey’s grandsons Romain and Baptiste have taken over the Domaine with the same passion for the wines and terroirs. The seventh generation is proud to uphold the family’s traditions and to continue what their elders spent their lives to build.
Vineyards and Vinification
Domaine Jean Vaudoisey Domaine is located in Volnay and consists of 7.5 hectares. Their philosophy is that a good wine always starts with fresh and healthy grapes. Their work in the vineyard and cellar all aims at producing a wine that best reflects its terroir. For this reason, they do not use pesticides in the vineyards. Their parcels are ploughed in order to force the roots to dive deeper and draw the nutrients from the various strata of the soil thereby expressing its terroir. In addition to this, they practice sustainable agriculture and try to only use plant care products when absolutely necessary with doses adapted to the risks.
When it comes to harvesting at Domaine Jean Vaudoisey, the grapes are all manually picked by their team of vintagers. it is extremely important to them that the grapes remain intact until their arrival in the winery. Once in tanks, the fermentation is made using to native yeasts (mainly natural yeasts present on the grapes).
Wines
All of the Domaine’s wines are aged in oak barrels during 12 to 18 months according to the vintage with a proportion of new oak of 10 % to 25 %. An outstanding example is the Bourgogne rouge. In terms of size the Bourgogne rouge is the most important at Domaine Jean Vaudoisey, covering more than a third of their 7.5 hectares across Volnay, Pommard and Meursault. It is an amazing introduction to the family’s wines, full of juicy red berry fruit, perfume and spice with distant, subtle tannins.
