Clos Cantenac, Grand Cru St Emilion Imperial 2021

Red | France | Bordeaux | 14% | Full-bodied red

Slightly denser colour, shier on the nose with darker fruit, damsons and cream, leafy and a compote note too. Sweet berry fruit on the palate, blueberries, compote and fresh red berries then acidity comes through. Light in body with sweet blue fruit, fresh and sweet but with bigger tannins and crisp balancing acidity. Really pretty fruit and a medium finish. More intensity than PC, typical CC but lighter. One for drinking really happily. 40% new oak.

In its second decade, the Krajewski family’s Clos Cantenac, to the west of St Emilion, continues to go from strength to strength. The vines, which now average around 35 years old, are really getting into their stride and Martin’s daughter Charlotte – Lolly – who has been making the wine there for the past three vintages, is constantly refining how she treats the grapes, both in the vineyard and the cellar, in order to highlight their terroir.
