Tucked away in the southern corner of Catalunya, in the hills between Tarragona and Zaragoza, the D.O. Terra Alta specialises in Garnatxa (Grenache). Whilst the red version is found all over Spain and southern France, here the rarer Garnatxa Blanca has really made its home, enjoying the cooler temperatures from the altitude (up to 500m) and the poor limestone-based soils. Winemaker Ramon Roqueta Segalés named the wines after La Picossa, the peak which separates Terra Alta from the River Ebro, a tribute to Pablo Picasso who lived there in 1909.
