Autumn Selection 2026

As the evenings draw in and autumn takes hold, our thoughts naturally turn towards wines with a little more warmth, depth and character. This autumn we bring you a considered selection of approachable reds and whites perfect to enjoy as the nights start to draw in.

The range takes in established regions such as the Rhône and Bordeaux, alongside distinctive wines from further afield, including Argentina and South Africa, where Pinotage offers a particularly characteristic alternative.

Whether you are looking for a reliable bottle for a relaxed evening or something with a little more substance to accompany autumnal cooking, there is plenty to explore. Wines can be purchased by the full case, or mixed to create a case offering greater variety.

Champagne Virginie T. Transmission Brut NV

Champagne Virginie T. Transmission Brut NV

White | France | Champagne | 12.5% | Sparkling

Virginie T's new house cuvée, based on the 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages, a blend of 70% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier, the majority (85%) from premier and grand cru vineyards; this spent eight years on lees before disgorging. Pale with a fine stream of bubbles, with a rich, yeasty autolytic nose, biscuity and savoury, leading to a bright citrus-infused palate, a hint of orange zest, again biscuity, mineral too, and going to a lovely, poised finish.

Le Saut de Loup Chardonnay, Domaine du Château de Demigny 2023

Le Saut de Loup Chardonnay, Domaine du Château de Demigny 2023

White | France | Burgundy | 13% | Full-bodied white

The gorgeous Château de Demigny is situated on the wrong side of the tracks, so to speak, parallel with Chassagne Montrachet but some way east, and as a result it is classified as a humble IGP rather than Appellation Contrôlée Bourgogne – but don’t be fooled, it is classic white Burgundy! Very pale with a nose of white stone fruits and white pear, fresh and racy with a juicy citrus burst; on the palate bright and fresh with a hint of green spices and white pepper, again a white pear note, racy and fresh with a lovely bright finish. Delicious.

Jardins, Château Mauvesin Barton, Bordeaux 2024

Red | France | Bordeaux | 12% | Medium-bodied red

Vibrant red, jewel-like, with a nose of juicy, peppery dark fruit, leafy and fresh, with an equally juicy, floral palate, soft, supple red fruits – redcurrant, rhubarb – with just a light tannic twist for freshness.

"This 100 per cent Merlot is designed for easy-going al fresco/picnic drinking, with maximum, juicy hedgerow fruit and minimum tannins. It’s utterly charming and could have been made especially with this moreish muffuletta in mind." Jonathan Ray, The Spectator - recommended to pair with chef Olivia Potts' muffuletta recipe.
