Bourgogne Blanc Côte d’Or, Cuvée Oligocène, Domaine Patrick Javillier 2023

White | France | Burgundy | 13% | Dry, full-bodied white

From lieu dit Les Pellans, part of which qualifies for the Meursault appellation and some of which carries just the regional appellation, on the border with Puligny, with calcareous soils. Bright gold with a nose of leafy white stone fruits, some distant grilled notes, rich and creamed but much less overt than the Forgets. Big golden fruit on the palate, more restrained and linear, fresh and racy, leafy, floral, a distant almond note and a hint of anise on the finish; linear, not lush. Drink 2025 - 2029

Marion Javillier is frequently the author of our Burgundy Report subheadings – she always has a pithy one-liner to sum up the vintage, or the market, or the season, which just puts things into perspective. This year she summed up 2023 as a ‘bon millésime – voilà!’
