Technical Sheet |
Romain and Baptiste Poirrotte, the young proprietors of this old family Domaine, took over the reins in 2015 when they were in their early twenties. They have since instituted many changes, including planting Chardonnay in Monthélie and Volnay, as the soils are so well suited to it. With only one premier cru in Volnay, they have begun to separate out their higher performing lieux dits to mature and bottle separately; last year saw the addition of Volnay Ez Blanches, at the top of the slope above 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, and this year it is the turn of Volnay Les Grand Champs, in the middle of the appellation and immediately below premier cru les Mitans.

30 ares of vines in Volnay, formerly planted to red, which had been uprooted but never replanted; 15 to 20% new oak plus some demi-muids. Bright gold with a nose of very tight white stone fruit, lightly smoky and spiced, with some exotic fruits too, leafy and almost chalky. Linear on the palate, with notes of white peach and spiced citrus notes, less overt than in previous vintages and going to a long, juicy finish. This always overdelivers. Drink 2026 - 2028
