Chassagne Montrachet La Goujonne, Les Parcellaires de Saulx 2024

White | France | Burgundy | 12.5% | Full-bodied white

From a lieu dit on the eastern edge of the appellation, just below Morgeot, here they exchange Puligny must with their Belleville partners rather than buy fruit; just two barrels produced. Deeper gold with a nose of sweet, rounded, toasty fruit, some orange zest, citrus behind, and leafy too, leading to a palate of sweet, bright fruit with a light honeyed note and freshening lime and citrus, toasty and floral with a note of white flowers going right to the long, mineral-infused finish. Drink 2027 - 2031

Les Parcellaires de Saulx is a relative newcomer to the Burgundian scene – and something of a disruptor at that. In 2017, the new American owners of Clos de la Commaraine in Pommard, who also own the renowned Rully estate Domaine de Belleville, established a négociant arm on the edge of Meursault, in an old manor house with extensive underground cellars. As the name implies, the focus is on individual parcels: unique crus of purchased fruit or juice, the majority of which is organically or biodynamically produced. The only blending winemaker Isabelle Laurand undertakes is between barrels from the same lot – never across different parcels – allowing her to maximise the expression of both terroir and vintage.
